ASIO, AFP investigate 3000 terrorism tip-offs ASIO and federal police are investigating about 3000 potential terror threats after calls to the national security hotline. About 22,000 calls were made to the service last year. And authorities expect a mass of information from the public as agents search for five missing rocket launchers believed held by a terror cell. The Federal Attorney-General's office released limited figures on the hotline. They show 88,000 calls were made in four years, with just under half offering information. About 11,500 were followed up. Counter-terrorism chief Frank Prendergast refused to say if the hotline had provided information leading to the arrest of a man over the rockets. But he said the service was a vital intelligence tool. "Some (calls) assist directly, some add to our intelligence holdings," he said. The Government has committed $19.2 million to continuing the hotline for four years. Another $7.6 million will be spent running a 24-hour national terrorism watch office. Attorney-General Phillip Ruddock said it was money well spent: "If only one call prevents something catastrophic from happening, the hotline will have made an important contribution to protecting Australia." Taha Abdulrahman, 28, of Leumeah in western Sydney last week was charged with 17 offences related to five rocket launchers, allegedly among seven stolen from the army. Police claim Mr Abdulrahman may be linked to 11 men from Melbourne and 12 from Sydney charged over a terror plot. The Lucas Heights reactor was identified as a target and the search for the missing rockets is focused on Sydney. The 60mm shoulder-fired rockets are powerful enough to pierce 30cm armour.
