Arabs wishing to support conciliation must denounce terrorism-Iraqi official

BAGHDAD, Jan 7 (KUNA) -- Arab governments wishing to support the Iraqi
National Dialogue must notify the Iraqi government officially and take a
clear stand against terrorists, Iraqi minister of State for National
Dialogue and Head of the High Commission on National Reconciliation Akram
Al-Hakim said Sunday.

Al-Hakim said in a statement obtained by KUNA, the media has been reporting
that Arab governments and NGO's have been wanting to support the Dialogue
but none of these entities has addressed us officially with any initiatives
or recommendations.

What needs to precede this support from other governments, Al-Hakim said, is
for them to coordinate with the Iraqi government regarding security concerns
and to assure Iraqis that no terrorists are being abetted on their
territories.

Criminals in these countries need to be extradited to Iraq, he added.
Al-Hakim's statement was likely alluding to Syria which has taken in a
number of top Baathist figures including Izzat Al-Douri, former deputy Iraqi
president who the Americans allege has been orchestrating attacks in
Baghdad.

The latest reconciliation conference held in December included a number of
lower level Baathists. Baathists have also been re-instated to their jobs in
the military and police recently.
