At least two wounded by gunshots in Lebanon protests (AFP) 23 January 2007 BYBLOS, Lebanon - At least two people were wounded when gunmen fired at men trying to block roads at dawn on Tuesday at the start of a one-day strike called by the opposition, hospital sources and witnesses told AFP. Mark Howayek was wounded by a bullet in the back while George Farah received a shot in his stomach, sources said at Lamartine Hospital in the port city of Byblos north of Beirut where they were transported. They told an AFP correspondent that they were followers of Christian opposition leader Michel Aoun. Witnesses on the main road linking Byblos with the town of Halate, more to the north, told AFP that two more people were wounded when gunmen fired at a group of opposition followers trying to block the road. Since dawn, several roads have been blocked in Beirut and other surrounding regions by opposition followers who burned tyres and dumped sand across the roads, AFP correspondents said.
