Rafiq Sabir vowed in the May 2004 meeting with an agent posing as a representative of the terror lord to give medical treatment to wounded jihadists - and sealed his pledge with a hug. "It is the most important ritual in the organization of al Qaeda," FBI Agent Ali Soufan said during questioning by Assistant U.S. Attorney Karl Metzner. Sabir and Bronx martial-arts teacher Tariq Shah repeated the oath after the agent, each vowing "to be a loyalist to the path of jihad" and to "be protective of the secrecy of the oath and to the directive of al Qaeda." "I gave him Osama bin Laden's [pledge] first, and then I took the bayaat [pledge of allegiance] from Mr. Sabir," Soufan told the hushed courtroom, explaining that the oath sealed a pact between bin Laden and his followers. The meeting was the culmination of a long investigation in which Soufan, posing as an al Qaeda recruiter with the power to swear new members into the terror group, cultivated the two men's trust. kati.cornell@ <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> nypost.com . <http://geo.yahoo.com/serv?s=97359714/grpId=12603557/grpspId=1705303296/msgI d=201565/stime=1178674749/nc1=4438967/nc2=3848607/nc3=4299915> [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] -------------------------- Want to discuss this topic?
