"Liberal
<http://dailycaller.com/2010/07/21/liberal-journalists-suggest-government-sh
ut-down-fox-news/2/> journalists suggest government shut down Fox News" is
definitely an eye catching Daily Caller headline, but it does not accurately
describe the mindset shown in the leaked
<http://dailycaller.com/2010/07/21/a-few-excerpts-from-journolist-journalist
s/6/> excerpts from Journolist, the 400 member listserv created by Erza
Klein.

It does not show a grand liberal conspiracy to shut Fox News down, as it was
simply suggested by one email, but it does show that Fox News has
progressive journalists' panties in a twisted bunch.

It shows fear when Guardian columnist Daniel Davies, states "I am genuinely
scared" of Fox." And it demonstrates intolerance of conflicting opinion
when he writes, "In order to have even a semblance of control, you need a
tough legal framework."

The desire to see Fox News shut down is also demonstrated in Journolist
messages from Jonathan Zasloff, a law professor at UCLA, when he asks why
the "FCC couldn't simply pull their [Fox] broadcasting permit once it
expires."

The back and forth between the Journolist members establishes fear,
intolerance, and desire to see Fox News gone. The discussion also raises
the question of why one news station that is not slanted leftward gets these
journalists so upset.

In September 2009, Pew <http://people-press.org/report/543/> Research did
an in-depth analysis of the media from 1985 to 2009 and the results show the
public perceives a liberal media bias in today's journalism.

* 60 percent say the press is politically biased.
* 50 percent says press favors liberals.
* 22 percent say the press favors conservatives
* 27 percent says the no answer/don't know.

In January 2010, Public
<http://publicpolicypolling.blogspot.com/2010/01/fox-leads-for-trust.html>
Policy Polling (PPP), a Democratic leaning pollster, found that Fox News was
<http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0110/32039.html> trusted by more
people than ABC News, CBS News, CNN, and NBC News.

Our newest survey looking at perceptions of ABC News, CBS News, CNN, Fox
News, and NBC News finds Fox as the only one that more people say they trust
than distrust. 49% say they trust it to 37% who do not.

Despite, or perhaps because of, the perceived liberal media bias from
today's journalists, more and more people are drawn to Fox News and listing
them as more trustworthy than not.

That is enough to enrage a liberal journalist.

A look into the popularity of Fox News, not from polls but from actual
viewership, truly tells the story though. The Journolist emails were dated
March 2010. A look at TV
<http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/ratings/the_scoreboard_wednesday_mar_10
_154821.asp> Newsers Scoreboard showing viewership for the top cable news
networks for March 10, 2010, just a couple days earlier than some of those
emails, shows the salt that was being poured into the wounds.

That is enough to get any progressive's panties in a twisted bunch, but
especially ones who consider themselves part of the news media
