Will an Offensive Operation Come Soon? by Jerry Gordon http://www.newenglishreview.org/images/clear.gif Hamas Military commander and body guards killed in IAF attack Friday, more than 50 rockets and mortars were fired from Gaza into Southern Israel and the Western Negev at residential targets in the Eshkol and Sha'ar Hanegev regional Council. The recently deployed Iron Dome <http://www.flightglobal.com/.../picture-israels-iron-dome-system-foils-firs t-rocket.%20html> , anti-short-range rocket and missile defense system successfully knocked out Kassem rockets fired towards Ashkelon and Beersheba. In retailiation for this escalation of terror weapons, the IAF attacked a vehicle killing a senior Hamas leader and two bodyguards. According to a <http://www.jpost.com/Defense/Article.aspx?id=215792> report in the <http://www.jpost.com/Defense/Article.aspx?id=215792> Jerusalem Post, more than 17 Palestinians have killed in retaliatory IAF attacks on 'terror cells' since Thursday. The trigger for these actions by the IDF was the attack on a bus on Thursday. PM Netanyahu said that had <http://www.jpost.com/Defense/Article.aspx?id=215727> "crossed the line." We are witnessing the end of the unilateral hudna by Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terror groups in Gaza. This is evident in the escalation of a war of attrition pitting Hamas and PIJ home made Kassem rockets and Iranian supplied mortars and Grad rockets against Israeli technology-the Iron Dome short range rocket and missile interception and Trophy <http://blogs.voanews.com/.../new-israeli-rocket-system-knocks-out-palestini an-%20missile/> systems, the latter protecting main battle tanks against anti-tank missiles - and IAF fighters. Still the daily toll of terror attacks is mounting rapidly and the Israeli technological rocket and missile defense shield is not fool proof. Eventually, when the fusillade of Hamas and PIJ rockets and mortars reaches a crescendo, Israel will have no choice but to expend blood and treasure in an extensive operation in Gaza. This time, unlike the aborted Operatiion cast Lead in 2008-2009, IDF combat units will be engaged in house to house combat destroying Hamas and PIJ terror cells with collateral damage-meaning civilian casualties. As in the prior episode, aborted on the eve of President Obama's Inauguration in January, 2009, there will be much hand wringing on the part of the world media, the EU, UN and our US State Department with calls for a cease fire and more faux human rights investigation akin to the maligned Goldstone report. This is the price that Israel paid under the Sharon government for unilateral withdrawal from Gaza in August, 2005 to assure peace. It brought no security for Israel, only death and destruction from the skies perpetrated by Jihadis out to destroy the Jewish state.
