One of the men is suspected of being responsible for supplying senior Taliban leadership in northern Ghazni province with weapons and explosive materials. The other man was detained for allegedly supplying insurgent and Taliban groups in Ghazni province with suicide vests. He also is suspected of planning to kidnap Afghan security force members. Security forces recovered one suicide vest with explosives, 40 25 mm grenades, an IED constructed with 18 pounds (8 kilograms) of explosives, two AK-47s and two tactical vests with associated ammunition. Both men, including a third man who tested positive for recently handling explosives, were taken by Afghan authorities for processing and further questioning. Kandahar Province Afghan and coalition forces cleared nine IEDs during routine patrols May 6-7, in Panjwai district, Kandahar province. In the last seven days, the partnered force cleared 16 roadside bombs in Panjwai, including these latest IEDs. There are no reports of civilian casualties or property damage as a result these operations. The combined force discovered 617 pounds (280 kgs) of dry opium in a vehicle. The detainees were taken by Afghan authorities for processing and further questioning. Paktiya Province A coalition force patrol discovered a weapons cache in Ahmadabab district, Paktiya province, today, consisting of 10 rocket-propelled grenade launchers, one rocket and one mine. All weapons and explosive material have been or will be destroy by security forces. Wardak Province In Nerkh district, Wardak province, today, Afghan and coalition forces discovered 220 pounds (100 kgs) of mixed ammunition, 132 pounds (60 kgs) of artillery projectiles, hand grenades and anti-personnel mines. All weapons and explosive material have been or will be destroy by security forces. Baghlan Province A combined Afghan and coalition security force killed one insurgent while searching for a Taliban leader during a security operation in Talah wa Barfak district, Baghlan province yesterday. During the search, an armed insurgent attempted to fire his weapon at the force. The security force responded, killing the insurgent. The Taliban leader conducts attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces. He facilitates, plans, and coordinates improvised explosive device attacks in the province. Intelligence reports led the combined security force to the leader's suspected compound. The combined force searched the compound after isolating the area and calling for all occupants to exit peacefully. After securing the safety of all women and children, the force interviewed local residents about the whereabouts of the insurgent leader. One individual with suspected ties to insurgent activity was detained for further questioning. Helmand Province A combined Afghan and coalition force patrol discovered a weapons and drug cache in Nahr-e-Sarj district, Helmand province, today. The cache consisted of two 40 mm grenades, one 60 mm mortar, eleven 30 mm grenades, one AK-47, one pressure plate, one .22 caliber pistol, 40 pounds (18 kgs) of homemade explosive, 200 7.62 mm rounds. Also... In Garm Ser district, Helmand province, a combined Afghan and coalition force patrol discovered a drugs cache yesterday. Several individuals were detained in association with the drugs. The cache consisted of four 150 pounds each (68 kilograms) bags filled with opium. No civilians were harmed during the operations.
