As you may have guessed - the conversion of the old archives did not
work again. The people who normally would be able to solve issues like
this are out during the weekend. My "note to self" is not to plan an
outage like this again during the weekend if we are going to be needing
support from DreamHost. Hindsight is 20/20. But the hope is that they'll
figure out what is the issue on Monday when the people with the right
experience get back into the DreamHost offices.
Thank you to everyone for your patience, and many thanks to those of you
who have sent me notes of support and encouragement during this
transition period. I really hope soon the issues will be resolved and we
can go back to business of Opening Space. Technology is best when it's
invisible.
Warm Regards,
Harold

Another update - the folks at DreamHost are trying to do the
conversion again right now. They said it might "take hours" so I may
not know until the morning U.S. East Coast time. Apparently DreamHost
doesn't let a lot of their support people do the super user password
access type of things that Mailman requires to do these kind of
archive conversions.
Thanks again for all the messages of support and encouragement - and
thanks everyone for your patience. I guess in a way I was asking for
it when I planned the conversion on "April Fools" day. Sorry about
that. Luckily the Mailman software itself seems to be working just
fine. It's just the conversion of the old archives that has been
tripping up the DreamHost support staff.
I'll send out another update in the morning. I may consider letting
the traffic flow again in the morning and giving up on the conversion
and integration of the archives until a later date possibly on another
system.
Thanks!
Harold

Dear OSList-ers,
My deepest humblest regrets about the delays. Although I'm a
competent programmer - I don't have direct access to the import
process of the old archive messages. I had to assemble and convert
the old messages from ListServ format to Mailman format - but I
don't do the final step.
There have been 6 delayed postings to OSList since we started the
move. Those emails have *not* been lost. I will approve them as
soon as the moving day(s) process is complete
The 24,000+ emails to the OSList since 1996 are safe and sound. We
even have multiple copies of them (thanks Peggy!) What is more - I
managed to install Mailman myself on my laptop and the archives
converted just fine to the GNU Mailman program.
But - as I said - I don't have direct access. This is something
that DreamHost has to do for us. Hopefully they will complete the
process soon. We need to wait until they complete that process
before we can go live - or your new emails will not get
incorporated into the archives.
Thanks so much for all your patience!
Regards,
Harold
