Hallo Birgitt,
I try to add a distinction:

>From my point of view as (a physicist) there is an difference that is often
are smudged:
I say it first in German, where it sounds:
    Between SELBSTORGANISATION and SELBSTLAUF,
i.e. self organization and "doing nothing" or translating the German
expression "let things go as they go by itself", in french lazzes faire (I
don't know if my spelling is right).
So physics knows, that self organization does NOT occure by itself: There
have to be suitable boundary conditions / constraints (i.e. temperature,
...).
So Open Space IS not self organization but it is an procedure, that tries to
adjust very carefully appropriate boundary conditions so that an optimal self
organization can occure.
... facilitators describe this attempt in a sence making way not as holding
the temperature but "holding the space" ...
Michael
