Koos, I just finished a daylong OST for public input into a plan for a large and complex intersection and neighborhood in San Francisco.
A local group of architects and designers sponsored the event and invited every property owner and tenant in the area. It was a daylong OST and attracted 25 people, which was fewer than expected. Yet a quite diverse group worked thru a number of contentious issues, completely self-managed their groups and notes, and generated a number of creative recommendations. These will be delivered to the planning department, which will consider them as they develop a draft plan for the usual public hearings. Two staff from the city planning office participated, and they were pleased at the quality of the work and their ability to engage with stakeholders around important issues. We used several poster-size maps of the neighborhood, which were useful for the small groups and were then attached to the notes.
