Hello Larry and Diane, Open Space in education is such a natural fit. As many of you know I've been using it as a teaching methodology at the University Level. I even facilitated Business Law using OST. Many teachers are in pain and limping through our education systems. If you remember after Michael, Chris, Julie and I used OST in Alaska many schools used OST for their faculty meetings.
In two weeks I am using OST with 130 - 9th graders. They want to leave their middle school with suggestions and praise as they move on to high school. Their middle school wants to incorporate their ideas into next year's strategic planning. So I will spend an afternoon "playing" with them. This also allows me to bring a couple of new OST facilitators along in a mentoring capacity. Larry -- I'd also like to know about the leading edge university! Create an Extraordinary Day! Congratulations and keep up the good work. I've also experienced negative intro, eg. by an Assistant Deputy Minister with a group of 250 already demoralised and abused managers. But, yes, they found their space and at the end of the very first day, expressed amazement at their own renewed commitment and enthousiasm. You wrote : One University is already purusing an Education Faculty Open Space and two potential trainees are wanting to learn how to do it. Which leading edge university is that? It would be good to know so we can add it to our links or our web with open organisations.
