I tend to think like dear Chris Corrigan, though I have used both the
software for convergence Harrison has mentioned and the sticky-dot
method (I agree with Kerry - I use 5 and say 'put all five on one, or
distribute among several, or however you feel - don't sell, tear in
half, or push someone's hand as they are placing their dot' ;0) )

But I find more and more that 'non-convergence', or as I call it
reopening the space, works just as well and maybe better. When it comes
down to it, often convergence leads to less, and to giving up of
passionate issues for the good of the whole. Which is fine, depending
on the objectives and the design and the needs of the Open Space (for
example if it was great to have folks raise emerging issues but in the
end a committee needs to know the group's thought on what the majority
feels about which 5 to fund first, or so on).

As it often turns out, having 'champions' name issues and lead action
groups for an hour, as Chris mentions, keeps the highest energy items
moving forward quite nicely, and even new things that lead to marvelous
projects and outcomes can be raised in this reopening.

Choices, choices, eh?

Warmly,

Lisa
