Eleder:

1. I wish you the best of luck for both events. I can´t see any reason why you
can not do the opening in both languges and then the participants, in esch
group, will choose the language they want to speak.

2. I remember some years ago to participate in an event of IBM Spain in
Barcelona. The presentations were all in castelhan, but the questions to the
presenters and the discussions among participants were mainly in catalan...

3. When I have created some years ago the Iberian Wiki
(http://www.openspaceworld.org/cgi/iberia.cgi?), that is now closed, my idea
was to have a site in all the latin languages of the Iberian peninsula:
portuguese, castelhano, catalan and gallician. Not knowing anyone who spoke
basque, I am affraid that idea never come to my mind until know. And I never
could find people from Catalunha or Galicia interested in Open Space. Not even
from Spain, and the entries in spanish have been done by myself (in a very bas
castellan) and then corrected by people from south america.

4. But now that I am plannning to try to create an Iberian OSI (I don´t know
very well just now when and how) your participation both in castellano and
basque will be very welcome

Regards from Lisbon

Hello, hello!

I just write some lines to tell you about my first Open Space experiences that
are taking place next days in Eibar and Bilbao:

1. Tomorrow I'll be facilitating an Open Space in Eibar. Some months ago I
proposed "Sormena Espazio Irekian" (meaning "Creativity in Open Space") as a
day and a half meeting about creativity, in which we will be opening space
tomorrow between 11:00 and 18:00, and this will be the main part of the meeting.

We will be keeping the OS in Basque language and I find it specially
fullfilling being so, as this kind of "avantguard" activity takes seldom place
in this ancestral but less used tongue of our country.

2. The 9th of July I'll be facilitating OS again, this time at home, in Bilbao.
It'll be a one day meeting to find financing alternatives for a group of about
6 people that run 3 small freeware enterprises that deal with computer
security,...  Their projects are facing finance troubles and have to rethink
theim. They should have good alternatives soon as, otherwise, they would be
closing in September.

Regarding this OS, I wonder if opening space in Basque and Spanish language
would work OK and what I should take into account if I did so, something I'm
quite bended towards.

Ours is a diglosic community with everybody knowing Spanish. Around 50% of
potential comers are able to communicate in Basque. Having the space to do so
would be a kind  surprise and  inspiring for some of them. Having to express
themeselves in Spanish (one more time) would be the expected (and, sometimes
unconsciously, frustrating) thing for some of the comers,... Besides, myself
I'm someone that loves Basque language and doing stuff that helps it
reflourish...

I first knew about OS when I read Tom Atlee's book "The Tao of Democracy" and
it really stroke me. Some ten years have passed since and recently I've decided
to take it on and try it. Harrison's OST book, all these fantastic people on
the list-community ant the site itself are great support to prepare something
that is so much common sense, but so rare these days.

Whatever happens will be the only thing that could have happened, sure :-)!

Kind regards,

Eleder Aurtenetxe Pildain
