Hello friends and colleagues, I have shared to this list and community a number of times our learning and practice opening space in our family and using Open Space principles as a guide to raising our children and educating them.
Alongside the Open Space principles - I have found it crucial to have a practice to enable me to genuinely apply them to raising our children. The Work of Byron Katie has provided a very effective and powerful way of working with my own limiting beliefs, assumptions and fears about my children and their learning, loosening my attachment to outcome, being more welcoming to whoever shows up, trusting whenever it starts or finishes, holding space open for butterfly and bumblee children... After many years of requests I am offering a 6 week web-program applying this practice of The Work (and sharing my experience of 15 years of applying this practice) to the beautiful and challenging area of parenting. http://caitlinfrost.ca/workshops/parent-class/ I have found parenting to be a real practice ground for hosting and holding space, and what I learn there has actually had a lot of application to my hosting work out in the world beyond family as well as being so valuable in our family life. This practice was also a huge support to me as I co-developed an alternative learning community for my children and community as we were able to deeply engage with our beliefs about children and learning (and our own fears and assumptions) to open space for something genuinely responsive and alternative to what was offered in the traditional school system. We used Open Space both to develop the program, and as an organizing and value system underlying the program - trusting kids and families to take responsibility and follow their passion. 12 years later it is a thriving program and has just won an award in Canada for innovative education programs (the video will come out soon and I will share it here) I will be offering this 6 week practice/learning circle starting March 31st for 6 weeks on Tuesdays. I have set the time to Pacific Time in the morning so it is also accessible to European time zones (as requested). there are also some folks joining by recording from beyond that timezone reach. It is a practice based program - so we have weekly sessions together by phone or on the video/web program, as well as each person will have a practice partner to be in your own practice with the exercises between classes each week. I am pretty excited to offer and share this as it makes such a huge difference in my own life and work.
