--Nodes do not have direction, Peter. It is the direction of the street where the node with the stop sign is connected to. Check the street, then the arrows for the direction are visible (JOSM). Other editors I dont know how to show direction. It stop-direction is with direction of street, then use direction=forward else direction=backward
