If you have a Wi-Fi network at home, you can also consider the idea of
installing a small FTP server on your phone, i.e. this one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.theolivetree.ftpserver
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.theolivetree.ftpserver

Once you have set it up (quite simple), you can activate it when you need
and connect to your cell with any FTP client (i.e. FileZilla Client) or
even with your web browser, by just typing "ftp://[Ipaddress of your
device]:[Used TCP port]

Just note that, when using a FTP server in your cell, you're not allowed to
use Port 21, which is the standard for FTP protocol: this is due to a
specific limitation introduced with Android 4 (thanks, Google :-/ ).

Anyway, I find this way quite comfortable and quicker than transferring
files over USB cable via MTP protocol.
