Hal, I stand corrected. It absolutely does have the ability to save a calculated route as a gpx file.
After it generates your route, press the nav arrow at the lower left (next to the menu button) to bring up the From/To/Distance/Time screen and vehicle selection. Press on the Distance/Time line.
