Solved. OsmAnd won't talk while bluetooth is connected - apparently to anything.
At least for the Tab w/Android 6.0 that I use. I had read of a problem while using bluetooth earphones but had assumed that was because of using the same sound protocol or somesuch. However, I don't use bluetooth earphones but I do have a bluetooth keyboard which I use with the Tab I am running OsmAnd on. Turn bluetooth off and OsmAnd talks again; turn it back on and OsmAnd won't talk. Not my favorite piece of work, that. But it's probably not an OsmAnd problem. In testing I found the easiest way to trigger a voice prompt (w/out going anywhere) was start navigating a route, over and over.: Click the navigate arrow (tap screen, then on lower left), say "yes" to "use current track", and then click the blue start arrow (right most of dialog options along the bottom). OsmAnd will speak the first prompt in the route (if it's going to say anything at all). To try again, one must reset the route by clicking the navigate arrow again, click the "X" (left most of dialog options) and click "yes" to dismiss the current route; repeat steps in previous paragraph to try for the first voice message again. If there's a way to bop down the direction changes in the route and get each voice prompt in turn (w/out actually traversing the route), I haven't found it. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Osmand" group.
