Solved my own problem :-)

A few days back i found a few options somewhere hidden deep. After
experimenting with it i had my favorite option back.

How to enable it on v 2.9.

Options:
Configure screen
map markers set it to "widgets"
active markers to "one"
distance indication to "on"
choose how to display the display to activemakers to "widgets"
show arrows on the to map "on"

That way you immediately see where you are and heading related to you
marker/flag outside your map (zoomed in to much).
Very useful in unknown area's
