I have recently replaced my Sony Xperia Z3 running Andriod 6 with a Sony Xperia XZ1 running Android 8. Both have OsmAnd+ 2.9.3 and the map for Norway.
On the new phone, when I zoom out so the length indicator shows 5km or more, the map disappears completely and I see only a white screen with the blue dot/arrow. This obviously makes it hard to pan to some place far away.
