Harry - I take my hat off to you (again) - You were spot on.
I disabled several maps, contours, etc.  Result = Route plotted OK.
Re-enabled them - Problem returned.
Methodical testing found the culprit.  The weird thing is, it was South 
West England, and the route was totally well within South East England.
Deleted and re-installed it. = Joy!
