Since the wiki clearly states that this option is possible I was
wondering how to get there ( e.g. how to compile what so that these
options are available ). For all I know I've compiled everything in a
way that phonon should support oss via xine.

Any non phonon application does play sound via oss v4 just fine ( e.g.
xine + oss v4 )

That was my thinking, too and I was wondering whether someone here
knows what it takes to make this happen.
