As for CentOS being any less secure than Ubuntu, I have my doubts. Now, when it comes to CentOS 7, it has some pretty major changes. For instance: NetworkManager is the default, systemd is the default. I haven't had much opportunity to really dig into 7 yet, but I've heard that they finally got SELinux policies closer to sane.
When it comes to installing/upgrading OSSEC, it's a breeze, really; no matter the OS.
