It is kind of strange, I always figured it had to do with history and the fact you have this big ass landmass that is the one country. When you spend your entire life surrounded by only Americans how do you differentiate yourself on that level? It's not like our nearest neighbor is another country, in most cases it is a state. I always figured that played a part in it. Plus you had a number of immigrants coming over in their ghettos who for all the assimilation retained a strong cultural identity in many ways. Example: For Christmas my family has always celebrated like any Sicilian family would. Thanksgiving?
