Hi,

There are usually two steps in pan-sharpening : first, you resample the XS image to the resolution and sampling grid of the P image, and then you perform the fusion operation using a pixel or neighborhood operator. The Pansharpening application only applies the latter.

Julien

Hi Julien,

Thanks for the very fast reply. I don't understand your response. I thought pan sharpening used high-resolution panchromatic and lower resolution multispectral bands in which case the spacing would have to be different. In my case the origins for the Pan and MS images are the same but the pan spacing is 1.5m and the MS spacing is 6m. I have a feeling I'm missing something simple but it's not clear to me.

Dear Ned,

The answer is more simple : the pansharpening application expect registered images (i.e. spacing and origin must match). If you want an application that includes registration/resampling, have a look at BundleToPerfectSensor. You can also performa a Superimpose beforehand.

Julien

Hi all -

I am trying to use Pansharpening through the OTB Applications browser in Monteverdi 2 0.8.0 on Ubuntu 12.04 and am getting an error when I try to fuse Pan (1.5m) and MS (6m) SPOT 6 image bands. The error message is:

Inputs do not occupy the same physical space!

InputImage Origin: [8.5232700e+05, 7.9139910e+06], InputImage_1 Origin: [8.5232475e+05, 7.9139932e+06]

Tolerance: 6.0000000e-06

InputImage Spacing: [6.0000000e+00, -6.0000000e+00], InputImage_1 Spacing: [1.5000000e+00, -1.5000000e+00]

I have a feeling this is caused by a conflict between the image origin being defined by the pixel center or corner and perhaps a rounding error. Here is a table of the X/Y coordinates using the coordinates for the upper left pixel reported by gdalinfo and the error message from OTB Pansharpening
--
Pan image
gdalinfo OTB Difference
852324 852324.75 -.75
7913994 7913993.20 .80

MS image
gdalinfo OTB Difference
852324 852327.00 -3.00
7913994 7913991.00 3.00
--

The output from gdalinfo lists "AREA_OR_POINT=Area" and in that case I think the upper left corner of the pixel should be used as a reference. If AREA_OR_POINT=Point the the center of the pixel would be used - at least that is my understanding.

I also see there is a "Tolerance" in the OTB error output. For some reason the difference between the gdalinfo and OTB Y coordinate for the Pan image is 0.8 and it should be 0.75 is it is for the X coordinate. Maybe this is the problem? Is it a rounding error?

Anyway, if anyone has suggestions about how I should deal with this please let me know.

All the best,

Ned
