Hi, In fact the DEM is not always used. It can be used if your input image and training vectors are not in the same projection. For instance, if you use a sensor image and training vectors projected in WGS84, the application will have to convert the polygon coordinates from WGS84 to your sensor frame, hence the need of a DEM.
