I went to a continuing ed on the ACL,and the OT there said that OT is the only discipline that can pick up a pt for cognition alone according to Medicare.  Speech has to relate a cognitive deficite to language, but OT's do not.

Hi everybody,    I have a good one.  One of my co workers asked for time off to attend a course on cognition.  She was denied because, per our supervisor and director, "OT does not do cognition, speech therapists do".  Last time I checked, It required cognition to perform ADL.  We tried to argue, but the people in charge are a PT and a non licensed SLP who don't want to listen.                                                                                                Time to dust off the resume,                                                                                                 Suzanne
