Hello All: The reason I'm asking about occupation versus function is pretty straightforward (I think?) so I want to share it with you. My professional belief is that OT's should use the word occupation at every available opportunity, especially when describing what it is we do. When we talk with reimbursers, in my opinion, we should talk about clients' occupational needs. We should talk to physicians about the same and should most definitely talk to clients and family members about occupational therapy by talking about occupation. One drawback to this is that people don't understand occupation like we do so they may be left with a even more confused picture of OT. However, I believe that when we say occupation is what OT does and then we explain occupation's meaning, listeners are left with a more complete understanding of why we are call OCCUPATIONAL therapists and why we do what we do. PLEASE give me and the list feedback on what I have said. Thanks, Ron p.s.
