Although my experience is limited, I will share my opinion on this question.

As far as doctors go, I think they see us as experts in rehab and deciding
whether or not patients are safe to return home, as well as splinting experts
(depending on the field).
PT's I have noticed view us as experts in cognition, which I have found to be
the main component they lack training in. We are also upper extremity
experts to them too I'm sure.
In the NICU, we are experts on feeding and positioning, for companies we are
experts in ergonormics and work hardening programs, for teachers we are
experts in pre-writing skills, for parents we are experts in teaching their
kids how to play.
I happen to know that for Christopher Reeve, we are experts in wheelchair
assessments and home modifications.
Nurses probably see us as ADL experts, and in psych we are cognition and
stress management experts.

I'm sure there are tons of things I missed, but these are some that I came up
with. Feel free to share any others or different opinions if you wish. Ron,
this may go nicely with your student's paper on the many hats we wear and
what we mean in others' lives.

Ana
