I am an SLP who has continued to lurk on this listserve because I have
learned so much by reading your letters. (I am currently in a supervisory
position where I work with therapists in all disciplines.)
I have had wonderful experiences with the OTs I've worked with. The field
is so broad that I am often surprised by the tasks they undertake.
I've seen them do splinting, work on upper extremities, work skill training,
life skills training, sensory integration, and feeding. If I thought about
it for a while, I'm sure I can come up with more. In truth, whenever I have
a concern that is out of my scope of practice, I go to the OT first. Chances
are, it is an issue they know something about.
I find OT to be a facinating field.
