I wish I knew why.  Occupational Therapy is pretty straight forward to me -
I think the name says it all.  I think that most people confuse the
"occupational" part.  The majority of people I have explained my major to
seem to think that occupational therapists are involved in work related
injuries.  It has to do with our definition of occupation differing from the
more commonly used one in our society.
I'm not really certain what can be done beyond educating people one person
at a time.  Maybe it needs to start with primary care physicians.  If they
had a real grasp on what we can do, then more of their patients/clients
would become informed...
