Hi all: There was an interesting article in the most recent issue of "OT Practice" re constraint of the unaffected UE after a stroke. The author found more success in working with the affected arm than in teaching one to relearn skills using the non-dominant unaffected arm. My question is - I am treating a 2nd grader who had a stroke in July. The dominant right side is affected. She had been attempting to write with the R hand but after a superficial finger injury she started using the L instead and now prefers it. She neglects the RUE and always tries to use the L. Should I keep encouraging her to write with the R hand to write with or is it best for her to use the L? Any input from those of you that have experience in a situation such is this is much appreciated. Thanks, MJ
