I had a younger patient (19) who had to use a cane after surgery. He put
bicycle handle bar wrap (very colorful) around his cane. He was amazed at
the change of people's perceptions about him.

Subject: Ideas for encouraging use of bathtub bars, etc.

I am working with a project that is aimed at encouraging the use of
assistive devices (specifically bathtub bars, non-slip surfaces, canes
and hip protectors) with seniors to prevent falls or reduce the impact
of falls. Our particular approach is to get more of these assistive
devices visible and accessible by having seniors from the community
approach local retailers to display and promote these devices, and to
approach hotels and construction companies to include bathtub bars as
standard bathtub features.

One of the suggestions we have for communities is to run some community
events that will help to market these devices. Some of our ideas at
present include fashion shows to promote nice looking canes that match
your wardrobe, Christmas package sales of related assistive devices,
displays at local home improvement sales, etc.

What I am looking for from you creative therapists is any nifty ways
that you have seen to promote the acquisition and use of these assistive
devices. Any great ideas out there?
