Dana,

I find the idea of holding the two ways (macro and micro) of thinking about
Occupation simultaneously and balancing each of them appealing. I think
what's happenend in the past is that Therapists have stayed with what
they've known -and that this is absolutely the correct situation, given that
we are bound by our duty of care to practice only what we know we can do
well. This has come about for lots of reasons:some of which are limitations
of our training, funding, and the individual OT's mindset.

What happening now (and has been for the past few years) is that Occupation
is being reappraised as a socially revolutionary concept (and now I am not
lost in the 60's)....I would agree with some of the others who've said it's
probably the MAIN social-revolutionary idea to be reappraised and redefined
in the post-modern wasteland of late 20th Century. Occupation is what
defines us as individuals and binds us all together. It's the raw and the
refined stuff of Life. A Truth that many people know, just that they don't
know they know.

David
