Hi Christian: I am not sure about evaluation tools as predictors of employability, I don't think I have come across any. But with regards to employability readiness testing there is a huge battery of vocational (and pre-vocational) assessments out there and I use quite a few of them in my work with mental health clients. However, I can't think of their names off the top of my head, but I frequently use many of the VALPAR vocational assessments. Though their assessments are fairly expensive, they are excellent.
Check out their website at: http://www.valparint.com/ Some of the assessments I use are based on the client's preference for work in a specific area and evaluate for e.g. clerical aptitude, system operator (computer related work), computer programming etc. As regards independent living, you can use the Kohlman Evaluation of Living Skills, the Cognitive Competency Test, and the ACL-90, in conjunction with a (situational assessment) e.g. planning/shopping/kitchen task. This is how I typically assess for independent living skills. Though I am not a big fan of the CCT, I strongly recommend the KELS and the ACL-90 (which is actually a screen, but is excellent and you can also often compare your own observation of client strengths and/or concerns based on the ACL score). Actually at facility where I work we recently added a new assessment to our battery for assessing independent living, which I haven't used so far called (quite simply) the "Independent Living Skills Assessment". As well I use the Assessment of Motor and Process Skills (the AMPS), but one needs to be trained in it. Hope this helps. Good luck, Biraj Khosla OT - Reg. (Ont.)
