I have to be very careful to not put to much identifying information in my
post as this is a client of mine. I'm a working OTR and am trying to
identify if what I am hearing about the family is cultural (as in overall
cultural expectations) or more of a family dynamic. The family has some
child rearing habits that viewed from an American childrearing perspective
are quite disturbing. I've met people of Middle Eastern decent Muslim,
Christian, and Jewish and have work with a few families and their children
of Middle Eastern decent but, have never heard what I'm hearing about this
family.
Like I said in the original post, I'm going to go out on a limb and assume
the family is Christian because it is a Christian school, I could be wrong
though.
So, I'm looking for general customs such as where children sleep, generally
what's expected of family, do families have pet names for their children
that they wish no one else to speak?, what about general ideas about
disabilities?
I haven't met the family yet, they are very passive resistive about getting
help for their child.
So, there are many issues to be dealt with.
