Hello Beth: Your question is being proposed at the National level. The following excerpt is taken from AOTA web site at (AOTA membership required for access): http://www.aota.org/members/area6/links/link39c.asp
It doesn't answer your question but it certainly indicates that it may be addressed by AOTA. Ron -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Report of the Chairperson of Commission on Practice to the Representative Assembly Sara Jane Brayman, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA September 2002 A. Report on Activities [cut] B. Action Items B.1. Occupational Therapy and Its Contribution in Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response Background and History The AOTF task force on Occupation in Societal Crises has met during the year to plan initiatives on behalf of the profession and to educate occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants in providing interventions during societal crises. A major effort will be consciousness raising about how occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants can contribute in disaster preparedness and emergency response. (See the AOTF Report.) Impact on Practice, Education, Legislation, or Relevance to the Profession This effort is particularly relevant as occupational therapists expand their practice opportunities in the community. Occupational therapists in particular can provide pivotal roles in addressing the needs of persons with disabilities or other special needs. A concept paper will describe potential ways that those individuals can best contribute to their communities during these stressful times. Action Recommended with Fiscal Implications Representative Assembly charge to COP to collaborate with the AOTF on the development of a concept paper on occupational therapy and its contribution in disaster preparedness and emergency response. Fiscal Implications: Costs to be shared between AOTF and the general COP budget. COP expenses to be incurred during development and review process. Suggested Motion I move that the Representative Assembly charge COP to collaborate with AOTF on the development of a Concept Paper on Occupational Therapy and Its Contribution in Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response. (See the AOTF Report.) ************************************************* On 10/28/02,[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: EHT> I have a friend in the CDC who posed a very interesting question to me.
