Hi:  I would encourage you to speak with the physician or nursing staff and document the precautions they state. What were the patient and MD goals for the surgery outcome.   In my experience someone with these diagnoses can benefit from energy conservation techniques, positioning,  adaptive aids and possibly explore the nutritionist's role with weigh management.  I would explore the home setting if this is where they are going to.  Check for architectural barriers and life roles, patient expectations and make goal realistics, short and attainable given all the variables you mention.  Stay realistic. Be cautious not the expect alot from the client.  Don't try to save the client, however do your best to assist with improving the quality of life. You did not say how old this person is..... I am guessing between 50-60years?  What does the MD think of prognosis?  Also a good basic resource is good, old Willard ! and Spackmans OT text.    Good luck.

Hi I am a OT student at Tennessee  State University.  There is a called OT precautions that we use in our classes.  It has diseases/conditions and the precautions and treatments that an OT can use to treat a patient.  I hope that this helps.  The book is maroon in color.  I will try to see if I can find the author and email you later. Like an idiot, I did not bring the book to school this semester .
