There is a snippet in this weeks Newsweek under "fast chat" that states the prescription-drug benefit for seniors includes "a complex set of deductibles and spending thresholds that leave large gaps in coverage." This article also states that the backlash will not be realized until after the 2004 election. A senator is quoted as saying that "For politics, it's an A-plus. For policy it's an F-minus." My guess is that this won't be the last surprise regarding the availability of services for our seniors-especially that frail elderly population who has less of a political voice. Marcia

This is another strictly U.S. health care posting and is related to those participating in home health care. I wonder if others are aware that the House of Representatives tacked on a provision for home health co-pays on the Medicare drug benefit legislation. This is troubling to me as I feel it will limit access to home care services for individuals who cannot afford the co-pay. Are other OTs practicing in home health in the States concerned about this? If so I would suggest calling or emailing your Representatives/Senators. Jimmie
