I have just recently started working in a SNF setting. I have just had a patient who was non weight bearing and this is what we did. The patient used a standard walker with only one leg with CGA and a gait belt. He was able to use the walker to use the restroom and then would ask for assistance to help pull up his pants. We worked on using a dressing stick while holding on to the grab bar to pull pants up. He was able to use walker to get to his wheelchair where he was independent with w/c mobility. My focus was on doing adl transfers with good safety while using the walker. We discussed safety precautions and I performed the KELS assessment of Independent living to decide where he stood as far as being able to go home safely.
