Hi Carmen, There was an interesting article by a Dr. William Miller, OT in Rehab Management Aug/Sept 2003 called Standing Strong. It discussed the disability associated with an individuals psychosocial reaction to fear of falling. He discussed utilizing occupational therapy to improve self efficacy with subsequent improved independence in occupational performance. One of the self reporting instruments he utilized is the Falls Efficacy Scale. Here is a link to the article: http://www.rehabpub.com/features/892003/5.asp
I am certain that using an instrument like the COPM would elicit volumes of information about balance/fall issues as it relates to occupational deprivation. You can also review the following research which specifically asks the question does addressing fear of falling lead to improved occupational performance: http://www.rehab.queensu.ca/cats/PDFs%5C3.pdf This is from a nursing journal on the same topic: http://www.rehabnurse.org/education/RNC-235.pdf Jimmie -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Carmen Aguirre Sent: Wednesday, February 16, 2005 9:19 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [OTlist] balance retraining I would like to know how are other OT's addressing balance retraining activities/tests/etc, within the context of Occupational Performance Thanks Carmen -- Unsubscribe?
