Jimmie: Using memory books would correspond to level 4.8 and up if it is a NEW
strategy for the patient.
If the task is a routine activity, that the client is used to, then their long
term memory would reconstitute easily and there should be no problem using
them. Remember that Level 4.0 are into goal directed behavior, with few new
steps; Level 5.0 and above are into new learning, moving from concrete
variables to more abstract until they achieve independent learning.
I hope this helps. I personally don't use them because my population ( elderly)
are mostly level 4.0's and below.
Thanks,
Carmen

  Subject: [OTlist] memory books

  Hey all,

There is a nice article in Advance for OT titled "Memory lane in a Binder."
I have utilized memory books in the past with inconsistent results. Does
anyone out there use this on a frequent basis? If so, do you have any
formulary for the contents? How do you document outcomes and/or develop goals?
Can the effectiveness of this intervention be circumscribed to certain
dementia levels? If so, what scale do you use (i.e. can you relate use of
memory books to certain Allen levels, scores on MMSE or the Blessed brief
cognitive rating, etc.)? What format has worked best for you (i.e. albums,
notebooks, wallets)?

Thanks for the information in advance!
