Ron, You wrote one time requesting ways to market OT services. I did some thinking (I dwelled on it for some time, as you can see by the length of time) and propose the following: I think you said once that you work mostly in ALFs. What about trying to involve yourself with programs at the ALF (i.e. see if they have a fall prevention program or see if you can get involved with the activities department). You could do this as a service with the goal to win heart and soul when its time to refer out for OT services. Activity departments are always looking for ideas on age and cognitively appropriate activities for their charges. If they have a significant population of dementia patients, you could introduce them to simple screening methods and activities which correspond. A free fall risk screening may be a way to garner referrals. Let them know you would be interested in serving on committees (i.e. fall, nutrition, etc.). Do ALFs have to do the Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale? Most states require nursing homes to complete these annually and most nurses despise doing them. You could market performance of the AIMS for a small fee as a way of gaining visibility at the facility and so that you may come into contact with patient's who might need your services.
