Shellie,

You might consider using AOTA's professional development tool. The PDT
"facilitates the process of assessing individual learning needs and
interests, creating a professional development plan, and documenting
professional development activities."

Primary Aim and Goals for the PDT

The primary aim of the PDT is to support excellence within the
profession.

The primary goals of the PDT are as follows:
To assess learning needs and organize professional growth activities
toward self-identified professional or career outcomes
To identify and pursue professional development opportunities that will
improve practice and career opportunities
To promote quality in the profession and contribute to the growth of
the profession
To fulfill one's responsibility for continuing competence

The secondary goals of the PDT are as follows:

To successfully make job transitions or attain new roles in an existing
position.
To change or develop specialty areas.
To plan reentry into the profession.
To reflect on practice and identify changes in the environment,
intervention systems, clientele, policies, strategies, and technology.
To identify and document skills transferable to multiple settings or to
emerging practice areas.
To appreciate that learning can be achieved through multiple pathways.

To meet the requirements of state regulatory agencies or certification
boards.
To document achievements and professional development activities for
performance review by employer.
To develop a system of tracking and maintain a permanent record of
learning and achievement.

The steps of the AOTA Professional Development Tool (PDT) are
to assess your professional development needs and interests,
to develop a professional development plan, and
to document professional development in a Portfolio.

Hi,

I am new to the list and am glad to be here.

I have been out of the field for almost 8 years and am going to be
re-entering soon (hopefully this month). I have alot of anxiety over
this. Things have changed. I don't quite feel sure of myself. Anyway,
I am going to be working in the home health field. Any suggestions as
to what I can read up on? I have already taken an online continuing
education course on documentation. Any suggestions would be
appreciated.
