Is your client independent in cooking, cleaning, gardening, shopping,
transportation, community involvement, maintaining her family connections
and her social circle etc.? In other words does she have meaningful
occupations and the practical or adapted activities necessary to support
them? What is her cognitive status? Sounds as though it is pretty good.
There is more involved in gardening than balance. Are there potential
difficulties? What is her plan? In my opinion the best assessment to
identify occupational deficit is the Canadian Occupational Performance
Measure.
I realise you may not have fast enough access so I suggest:
- a typical day interview.
- identify client's goals
Test with questions such as
- Do you want to do...........................
- Do you need to do .....................
- Can you do ......................
- Does someone else want you to do ..............
- Are you satisfied with the way you do ...............
Then you mutually come up with a plan and you state in the form of
Instrumental Activities of Daily Living.
Good luck, Joan
