Ron,

AskJeaves pulls definitions from something called "WordNet." "WordNet®
is an online lexical reference system whose design is inspired by
current psycholinguistic theories of human lexical memory. English
nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs are organized into synonym sets,
each representing one underlying lexical concept. Different relations
link the synonym sets." http://wordnet.princeton.edu/

Apparently they have had issues with other definitions in their
database, see: http://wordnet.princeton.edu/blind_person

There is a contact email for reporting problems with content. I sent
the email message below to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Subject: Definition of "occupational therapy"

To whom it may concern,

The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) is the national
professional society of occupational therapists.

WordNet defines "occupational therapy" as "physical therapy involving
the therapeutic use of crafts and hobbies for the rehabilitation of
handicapped or convalescing patients (especially for emotionally
disturbed patients)"

This is an inaccurate definition. Occupational therapy is not a subset
of physical therapy.

Several years ago we worked with Merriam-Webster to revise the
definition of occupational therapy in their dictionary. The current
Webster's definition is as follows:

Main Entry: occupational therapy
Function: noun
: therapy based on engagement in meaningful activities of daily life
(as self-care skills, education, work, or social interaction) especially
to enable or encourage participation in such activities despite
impairments or limitations in physical or mental functioning

We request that the definition of "occupational therapy" in WordNet be
revised accordingly. For additional information about occupational
therapy,
please visit: http://www.aota.org/featured/area6/index.asp

Sincerely,

Charles Willmarth
Director, State Affairs
American Occupational Therapy Association

You can find "Jeeves" at: www.askjeeves.com

If you want, you can simply read ONE of the answers below:

and
hobbies for the rehabilitation of handicapped or convalescing
