Ron,

Thanks for your message. However, I am not an OT, but rather an AOTA
staff member.

This is the mesage that I received from WordNet, it will take some time
before AskJeeves gets it right, but
the correction is in process.

Charles Willmarth,

Thank you for correcting our definition of OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY.
I have revised the WordNet definition along the lines you recommend
and have made it a hyponym of THERAPY, not PHYSICAL THERAPY.

It may take some time before this correction appears, since it
will need to await the next release of WordNet.

Sincerely,

George A. Miller

CW> Ron,

CW> Subject: Definition of "occupational therapy"

CW> To whom it may concern,

CW> The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) is the
national
CW> professional society of occupational therapists.

CW> WordNet defines "occupational therapy" as "physical therapy
involving
CW> the therapeutic use of crafts and hobbies for the rehabilitation
of

CW> disturbed patients)"

CW> This is an inaccurate definition. Occupational therapy is not a
subset

CW> Several years ago we worked with Merriam-Webster to revise the
CW> definition of occupational therapy in their dictionary. The
current
CW> Webster's definition is as follows:

CW> Main Entry: occupational therapy
CW> Function: noun
CW> : therapy based on engagement in meaningful activities of daily
life
CW> (as self-care skills, education, work, or social interaction)
especially
CW> to enable or encourage participation in such activities despite
CW> impairments or limitations in physical or mental functioning
