It's great to hear words of wisdom! I do agree that it's always good to share
the good experiences. I know for myself what a boost it is when parents or
teachers come to me and tell me how much improvement they have seen a child's
performance. A case of the 'warm fuzzies'. Maybe OT's on the list should take
some time to share the positive developments or encounters that they have
recently had? Just a thought...

Bravo Carmen! Being one of the elder readers of this list, I feel the
need to share the following. As it happens, when I became an OT in
1957, no one had ever heard of OT. Now, it is rare that I meet someone
that hasn't been exposed to OT one way or another. Now if they had a
grandmother having OT, they may have one perspective, or if it is a
child, they have another. Perhaps you need the advantage of time to see
how much our profession has growth. Also, Carmen is exactly right.
AOTA is not someone else, it is us. Take an active role in your state
and national associations and you can make positive change. Also,
everytime you share a negative experience, you contribute to the myth
that OT is negative. Try sharing positive experiences. People repeat
what they hear.
