Hey David:

For OT's, occupation can be both a means and an outcome. For example,
a stroke patient with left hemiplegia desires to safely and
independently enter his shower. As an OT, this may become one of our
stated goals and it may also become part of our standard treatment.
When I worked at an in-patient rehab facility, I spent many treatment
sessions simulating patients' home bathroom setup so that they could
practice their occupations. Thus, the occupation of bathing (including
getting in and out of the shower) becomes both the goal and part of
the treatment.

Do we get reimbursed for it? Sure! It's called CPT 97535 (Self-care
Management and Training)

Ron
