Ron - I am a COTA and a CMT (certified massage therapist) and while I do not have extensive experience with MLD I have worked with others and seen amazing results. I worked with an OT a few years a go who attended the course and became certified in the MLD. She was able to utilize the techniques with several of our residents along with the wrapping and achieve great results. As a massage therapist I have worked minimally with this population, however if you go onto the American Massage Therapy Association website (amta.org) you may find more research and information about the topic. If you don't know about CDT, don't feel alone. Basically, CDT is 4 steps for the tx. of lymphedema: 1. Manual Lymphatic Drainage - MLD 2. Compression wrapping 3. Exercises 4. Skin Care I am skeptical about the efficacy of the MLD portion of this treatment. I am investigating literature that supports or denies the outcomes of MLD.
